A Guide for Families
Clear expectations make a stronger international experience.
An overseas high school program brings students into a connected system of schools, program organizations, local staff and host families. Understanding how that system works helps families prepare, communicate and support a successful adjustment.
START WITH UNDERSTANDING
A shared experience.
A clear role for everyone.
Students bring a willingness to learn and adapt. Families support that process by understanding the program’s expectations, encouraging early communication and using the appropriate support channels. These are the areas to review together before participation.
Program responsibilities
Understand the roles of the program organization, school, local staff and Host Family, and the responsibilities students and families accept.
School expectations
Know the attendance, academic and conduct standards that apply at the student’s school.
Host family expectations
Prepare for different household routines, reasonable home rules and participation in family life.
Communication channels
Bring local concerns to the Local / Area Representative first. The North American Program Team coordinates follow-up; the International Representative supports preparation and family communication.
Travel procedures
Check the approval process before planning independent travel, family visits or holidays.
Financial responsibilities
Understand the commitments, costs and refund provisions in the student’s signed agreement.
Health and safety procedures
Provide accurate health information and understand emergency contacts, authorized assistance and medical-cost responsibilities.
Withdrawal and termination policies
Review the applicable procedures and potential consequences before deciding to leave the program.
PLEASE REMEMBER
Your agreement provides the specific terms.
This guide explains the areas families should understand. Specific requirements, refund rights and authorizations are subject to the student’s signed agreement and applicable program terms.
