Settling into school and everyday life
After arrival, the team continues to follow the student’s learning, daily routines and adjustment to the new environment. Conversations can cover school participation, communication, friendships, host family life and the questions that naturally arise while settling in.
Coordinated communication
The North America Program Department communicates with the school and relevant program staff to understand concerns and coordinate next steps. Families receive clear explanations of the information available and how the people involved can help.
Practical support when it is needed
When a concern arises, we help the student identify the appropriate contact and work with the relevant people to follow it through. In-person visits and local support may also be provided when needed and when location, access and circumstances allow.
Growing independence, with a connection to home
Support also means helping students become confident communicators and problem-solvers. We encourage them to take part in conversations about their experience, ask for help early and build a constructive relationship with their school and community while parents remain informed.
