Independent travel
Independent travel may require prior approval under the applicable Program Agreement. Travel must not interfere with school attendance or academics. Confirm the required forms, signatures and approving office before planning to leave.
Important
Before booking
- 01Check
- 02Request
- 03Receive approval
- 04Book
Check applicable program and school requirements, request the necessary permission, receive all required approvals and then book. Students and families should not make non-refundable travel arrangements before required approvals are obtained.
Please Remember
Allow time for the Travel Release Form
For students whose applicable Program Agreement includes this requirement, independent travel must receive National Office approval at least 15 days in advance through a Travel Release Form signed by the student and host family, and by the school if classes will be missed. Submitting a form is not the same as receiving approval. Confirm the deadlines and approval process in the student’s signed agreement and applicable program terms; this timetable is not a universal rule for all programs.
Family visits
Family visits should be coordinated in accordance with applicable program procedures. Host families are not automatically responsible for visitors’ travel arrangements. Families should clarify visit timing and arrangements with the appropriate program contacts before booking.
Holidays and school schedules
A school holiday does not by itself authorize independent travel. Check the school calendar, program procedures and household arrangements, and obtain any required approvals before confirming holiday plans.
This guide should be read alongside the student’s signed agreement and applicable program terms. Requirements and authorizations can vary by program.
