Program Overview
This academic-year pathway brings together study at a U.S. public high school, life with a screened volunteer host family and participation in the local community. Students take part through the J-1 exchange visitor visa category, with cultural exchange at the center of the experience.
It suits students ready to adapt to a new setting and share their own culture. Placement may be in different parts of the United States; openness to the matched school, household and community is an essential part of the approach.

American Public High School Experience
Attend a local U.S. public high school and become familiar with its lessons, assignments and school traditions. An exchange year is an opportunity to participate in daily school life, rather than a route to a preselected campus.
Explore courses, clubs and sports offered by the host school. Course placement, activity access and team participation depend on school rules, prerequisites, availability and applicable athletic eligibility decisions. No particular class, club or team place is assured.
Belong through everyday moments
Volunteer Host Family Experience
Live with an American volunteer host family and take part in ordinary household life: meals, conversations, routines and shared responsibilities. Hosts welcome an exchange student as a member of their household.
Host-family screening includes interviews, a review of the home and criminal background checks for adult household members under the designated Sponsor’s requirements. Household composition and living arrangements vary; a particular family type cannot be promised.

Getting involved can begin with a conversation at lunch, a school celebration or an activity in the local community. Students are encouraged to be curious, respectful and willing to try unfamiliar routines.

Project HELP / Community Service
Community service gives students a practical way to contribute. Depending on local opportunities and program approval, this could include supporting a community initiative, an environmental activity or a neighborhood charity.
Project HELP is ISE’s community service initiative. Participation in Project HELP depends on the confirmed exchange arrangements; available activities and any participation requirements should be reviewed with the program contact.

Optional Student Trips
Students may choose to register for additional-fee trips when available through the applicable program arrangements. Travel offers another setting for cultural learning and meeting fellow exchange students.
Trips are optional and are not included automatically. Confirm current destinations, costs, dates, permissions and participation conditions before booking; no specific trip or itinerary is promised.

Placement is a matching process
Students may be placed in different regions of the United States. School and location arrangements depend on eligibility, host-family matching, local resources and final review. A specific school, city, state or host family is not promised.
Exchange and study routes differ
This J-1 pathway prioritizes cultural exchange and openness to placement. It is distinct from the F-1 Public pathway with participating district options.
Independent decisions remain independent
Program acceptance, school arrangements and visa issuance involve the responsible Sponsor, schools and government authorities. AstraElite Global supports preparation and coordination; the designated Sponsor administers the J-1 exchange program.
Plan academic recognition ahead
Ask your home school about credit recognition before applying. Graduation, credit transfer and university admission are not promised outcomes of an exchange year.

Are student trips included?

What support is available?
Pre-departure orientation introduces expectations and support contacts. During the exchange, the designated local coordinator and program support network assist with adjustment and concerns through the applicable program procedures.
Does the program promise a visa, graduation or university admission?
No. Visa decisions belong to U.S. authorities, and schools and universities make their own academic and admissions decisions. Discuss your longer-term study plan and credit recognition before applying.
